Tomorrow is our last day of school and report cards went home today. Most of the students' work went home today as well. We will have a celebration tomorrow morning and the class would love to enjoy a few class treats for any parents willing to help out with this.
It's been an amazing year with an amazing group of students and both Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Cooper are sad that the year is over already. We look forward to seeing the grade 3 students back in the school next year. We wish the grade 4 students all the best as the leave to begin grade 5 in the fall. We also wish all the best to any grade 3 students who are moving.
DISMISSAL IS AT 12:03 tomorrow

This is the last week of school with our students and it's very hard to believe the year has gone by so quickly. Students will be starting to bring home their work throughout the week.
Tomorrow is Sports Day in the afternoon so please help your child to remember to dress in layers for the weather. We also recommend that students wear sunscreen and bug spray. A hat and comfortable shoes are also recommended. It will be a fun afternoon for everyone!
As a part of our school’s Right to Play initiative this year, we are asking students to bring a loonie or a toonie any day next week as a donation for the program. This fund-raiser will support play, cooperation, peace and sport in many countries around the world. Students will have the chance to play our Change for Change Plinko game when they bring their loonies and toonies! Our fundraising goal is $680, which is $1.00 per Cranston staff and student. Thank you for your help to give all kids the RIGHT TO PLAY!
We have a few exciting activities throughout the week including a dance performance on Thursday and a magician on Friday.
Report cards will go home on Thursday.
On Friday we will have a celebration and would appreciate some class treats being sent in. Please email your teacher if you are able to help out with snacks.
We had our final Health lesson today. Please talk to your child about what they learned and questions that they might still have.
We made sandwiches this morning to help prepare lunches that will be taken to the Mustard Seed. Thank you to all the families who donated money to help purchase the food for this service project.
We also had a practice evacuation to the Church this afternoon.

Thank you to all the parents that came for our Celebration of Learning last night. It was great to have the students proudly share their work. Congratulations to Grace and Vanessa for raising $115 with their delicious muffin sale. This money will be donated to WWF to support the work being done to save the Northern White Rhino.
The students will be starting to take home some of their work today and during next week. It's hard to believe that this year is already coming to an end.
We will plan to have a final class celebration on Friday June 26. If parents would like to send in some class snacks for our celebration that would be great! Please email your child's teacher if you are able to help out with this.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads! Have a great weekend:)

ZOO FIELD TRIP
Tomorrow is our field trip to the zoo. The forecast is calling for rain but we will still plan to go. Most of the day will be outside so we are asking students to please dress for the weather. Rain jackets and umbrellas are a really good idea! Please have your child wear comfortable shoes for walking. Students will need a water bottle, snack and lunch for the field trip. For our parent volunteers, please meet in your child's classroom at 8:25 am to get your group and information needed for the day. Volunteers will need to drive to the zoo but might want to plan to carpool with some of the other parents. We do not have room on the bus for all the parent volunteers since three classes will be fitting onto one bus. Parents can organize to carpool when we meet in the morning.

Students in Miss Jackson’s and Mrs. Cooper's math groups should be continuing to review their multiplication facts at home. They can be practicing changing their facts into division equations as well. Practice in both of these areas needs to be continued as we venture into fractions, geometry and other areas in math as they are an incremental part of their learning. Students can practice their facts using multiplication war that was demonstrated at the student learning conferences in March, putting multiplication facts to popular songs and by using Mathletics at home.
All library books need to be returned to the Learning Commons by tomorrow. We are still expecting students to continue reading at home every night for at least 15 minutes.
We are getting close to being done our Inquiry projects. We have only a few more days booked with the computers for students to complete their work. Some students will need to take home their work for the weekend in order to be down by next week. We will begin sharing our projects with our classes starting next Thursday. Our projects will also be set up to share during the Celebration of Learning.

It's hard to believe that we are already on our last month of school for this year. June is a bust month and we have many fun activities and projects on the go. As hard as it can be in June, we still want our students reading at home every night and doing Mathletics to keep practicing those skills. A lot can be still learned in the last month of school.
Mrs. Cooper's math class worked on a math assessment including a self-assesment to measure their growth and understanding of multiplication and division. Miss Jackson's math class started working on fractions today.
We have the computers booked for an hour everyday this week for the students to work on and finish their inquiry projects by Friday. Check with your child to see what they have done so far and what they still need to do to complete their project.
In the afternoon, we met with our grade 1/2 buddies to continue with our bee work.
Student's pictures went home today in their folder. Order forms and explanation of the process are in the envelope. These need to be completed by June 9, 2015
We also sent home permission forms for the zoo field trip to be completed and returned by June 10. There will be a cost of $11 for this field trip so please enclose the money with the form. For those students that informed us that they have a zoo pass, they are not required to pay the $11 as long as they are able to bring the pass for June 17.
All library books need to be returned by Friday, June 5.

Information – bike to school day
By: Praveen
Dear students of Rm 79 and
80,
Just a reminder that tomorrow
is June 2 so that means it is BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY!
Everybody is encouraged to
ride his or her bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. to school. If you don’t have
something with wheels you can also walk or jog or run! This event was started
by Kyle Stewart, a teacher within the CBE at Simon Fraser School, to promote
physical activity in our Calgary communities. It would also reduce your carbon
footprint for the day, which could help the earth and the problem of global
warming.
Looking forward to seeing
everyone on their bikes tomorrow!
Praveen

We enjoyed a very nice assembly put on by rooms 3 and 4, and 71,72,70, 75. Some great messages where given about remembering to not litter and to take care of our environment. The grade 3/4 team also gave us some valuable information about safety and reminded us of the importance of using the cross walk and to never jaywalk.
We did both Daily 5 and math this morning. Mrs. Cooper's math class will be doing a math assessment on Monday to show what they now know about multiplication and division. Miss Jackson's math class have been working on a very challenging problem over the last few days and today they shared some of their strategies that have use to some it.
Have a great weekend!

SANDWICH MAKING
For those
families who were at Cranston last year, you will remember our Sandwich Making
Community Project (donations went to the Mustard Seed) that we were involved in
and what a HUGE success it was! For
those new to us, throughout the year, we have been working very hard with our
students to recognize the importance of giving back to their community. We would like to participate in this project
again this year. If we could have each
student bring in $2 for this project, it will be used to purchase the sandwich
items (bread, ham, mustard, butter, cheese slices, Ziploc bags). Thank you for your support, it is greatly
appreciated.
Just a reminder to please return swim forms and yearbook forms if you are interested in ordering one.
We met with our grade 1/2 buddies to begin our projects for Bees. Ask your child what project group they are in and what they started with today.
